It doesn’t matter whether this article is written in 2020 or 2200 – the philosophy is going to remain the same. Staying young is something that the whole of the world’s population is always going to be trying to stay on top of, and this is never going to change.
In some ways, it’s becoming easier to do this, though. Sure, life is apparently getting more stressful (with technology largely to blame), and we all know what stress does to our youthfulness.
However, the easy part comes through the sheer amount of research which is constantly invested in this topic. In relation to today’s article, we have scoured studies and found some of the best habits you should adopt in your day-to-day life if you are serious about deceiving people about your age (for all of the right reasons, we should add).
Let’s kick off with stress
We have already touched upon this topic, but in reality, we could write pages and pages about stress and what it does to the body.
Unfortunately, in modern-day life, it’s almost become par for the course. At the same time, there are ways you can mitigate the risks. For example:
- Understand the symptoms of burnout, so that you can act quickly
- Take yourself away on a spa getaway or something equally relaxing as often as possible. Just the thought of this can be utterly relaxing for your body
- Don’t take your work home with you; it’s a mistake that we are all guilty of nowadays
The basic rules about sleep
There is certainly no shortage of studies about the topic of sleep. Sure, we may have heard all of the stories of various celebrities and politicians and how they “got by” on a few hours sleep every night. However, there’s no doubt that this is compromising their health and ultimately, their age.
Granted, on some occasions, you won’t be able to get the recommended eight hours of sleep, every night. Life gets in the way and makes this difficult. However, make this your target, and minimise those days where you are only getting several hours per night. It will do wonders for your eyes, skin and everything else that can give the game away in relation to your age.
The studies on sugar are completely real
There has been a lot in the media about sugar over the last few years, and it’s for a very good reason. One study found that individuals consuming 20 ounces of the stuff shortened their telomeres (which can keep you younger) by almost five years.
As such, this habit is all about cutting down your sugar intake. Even if it’s just stripping it out of your daily cup of coffee, it will make a world of difference.
Don’t go all out for that bronzing tan
For years and years, we all wanted an elusive, bronzing tan. Sure, this can still be desirable, but keep in mind the basic advice regarding the sun.
In short, even on a cloudy day, you are risking your skin when you step outside the front door. It will gradually deteriorate, and the years will catch up with you.
This means that our final habit is applying sunscreen each morning. Even if it is raining when you wake up, apply it to your face so it is protected even when just a few UV rays will be present.
